This Conference is to be held at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa 30 June to 3 July 2011. Plenary speakers include some of the leading thinkers in museum studies and leading practitioners, as well as numerous paper, colloquium and workshop presentations. Participants are welcome to submit a presentation proposal either for a 30-minute paper , 60-minute workshop , jointly presented 90-minute colloquium session or a virtual session. Parallel sessions are loosely grouped into streams reflecting different perspectives or disciplines. Each stream also has its own talking circle , a forum for focused discussion of issues. For those unable to attend the Conference in person, virtual participation is also available. Presenters may choose to submit written papers to The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum , a fully refereed academic Journal. Virtual participants also have the option to submit papers for consideration by the Journal. All registered Conference participants receive a complimentary online subscription to the Journal. This subscription is valid until one year after the Conference end date. Background International Conference on the Inclusive Museum The Inclusive Museum Conference is held annually in different locations around the world. The inaugural Conference was held at the National Museum of Ethnology, Leiden, the Netherlands in 2008 , the Second International Conference on the Inclusive Museum was held at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in 2009 , and the 2010 Conference was held at Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey. The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum Conference participants can submit papers to the Inclusive Museum Journal , before the Conference and up until one month after the Conference. Papers submitted for publication will be fully refereed. The publication decision is based on the referees’ reports. For those unable to attend the Conference in person, a virtual registration will provide participants access to the electronic version of the Journal, as well as the option to submit papers for refereeing and possible publication.
